Never let it be said
that Scouting doesn't teach you new skills...
On 29th-30th March, 2008, Burton Upon Trent Explorers
learned... how to build a road!
A weekend Working Party Camp at
the District campsite at Rangemore saw the lads
and lasses performing a number of helpful tasks
such as clearing deadfalls, moving/relaying flagstones
and cementing the fire circle. By far the biggest,
and most urgent, task of the weekend was to fill
in the huge trench in the road left following
the new gas installation. In true 'Ground Force'
style this had an imminent deadline as the road
had to be completed in time for the District Executive
Committee meeting on the Tuesday.
The job was hard and very
messy work but the Explorers performed admirably
and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The 15 youngsters
- plus several leaders including Rae Bradshaw
and Brian Reeves - all went home with a great
sense of achievement... and an urgent need for
a bath and a long sleep!
